			<title><![CDATA[Making Your Own Condiments]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[One of the biggest impacts on the taste of our food is often what we add to them.  Spices, Sauces and other flavorings shift and enhance the eating experience.  Under this thread we will share recipes and techniques from one of our recipe books.<br />
<br />
The biggest surprise is few if any condiments are difficult to make and the cost is far less than what you pay in the store. Here’s a quick example of an expensive product that takes very little to make.<br />
<br />
Vanilla Extract<br />
<br />
2 Vanilla beans<br />
1 Cup of Vodka (or bourbon, rum, brandy)<br />

Split the beans lengthwise and place them in a closed container filled with the alcohol.  The beans may need to be pushed down into the alcohol so that they are covered, soaking in the alcohol.  All Vanilla extract has alcohol in it and the alcohol evaporates when cooking.  Put the container on a shelf out of the sunlight and give it a slight shake every day or two for about 5 weeks.  At the end you have vanilla extract that is 3 times stronger in flavor than the store bought version.  If you read the label of the store version it usually 30% alcohol that means it has been cut with water diluting the flavor as well as the alcohol content.<br />
<br />
Leave the vanilla beans in the bottle.  When your homemade vanilla extract is half empty you can refill it with alcohol and it will refresh itself.  Or you can remove the beans, rinse them off and place them in a quart jar of sugar creating vanilla sugar. <br />
<br />
Okay I am already hearing the comments about cost.  This is far cheaper than you could imagine.  We buy vanilla beans from Ebay.com and with shipping get them for about 50 cents or less per bean.  Locally the beans cost almost 3 or 4 dollars depending on where you shop and the quality of the bean.  The alcohol does not need to be top of the line and for that matter can be modestly priced.  When we make the extract we make vanilla, almond and orange as examples.  We also make it as gifts for family and friends.  By the time we are done the bottle, alcohol and vanilla bean total &#36;4.00 for 8 ounces.  However, that is equivalent to 24 ounces and is refreshable.<br />

We order a case of bottles and use them for other things.  We buy about 50 vanilla beans at a time and that last a long time.  When the purchase is shared with others it is not that many beans and the beans are fresh and add real impact to your food. <br />
<br />
The vanilla stores well when double wrapped in plastic in the refrigerator.  Making great tasting food is easy when you have great ingredients.  Making it cost effective is just as easy and can be a lot of fun as you share the cost and value with friends and family. Who would not want to buy a &#36;4.00 vanilla bean for 40 cents that is truly 10 cents on the dollar and a very healthy return.  Vanilla extract even at discount prices is about &#36;14 for 12 ounces placing our products value at &#36;24, our cost at 1/6 of the purchased product.  Because the vanilla continues to strengthen (if you leave the bean in the bottle) and can be refreshed it is actually worth almost double the &#36;24 making your contrbution 1/12 of it retail price. 			<description><![CDATA[We have a large readership of our article "What Can I Eat," but are surprised by the lack of readers on how to cook from scratch.  The fact is our WEB sites Healthylife, HealthLiving and IntoTheGarden are outgrowths from issues we have dealt with avoiding harmful chemicals placed in the food chain that are making us and othesr sick.<br />

The only real solution to the problem is learning how to select the few safe foods and how to replicate the vast majority at home using recipes that eliminate the dangerous chemicals.  More people are falling pray to illnesses caused by a life of ingesting chemicals added into the food chain and few are told the source of the problem.  Gout, kidney stones, diabetes, depression, hypertension, ADD, liver damage and obesity are just a few of the problems that can often be traced back to chemicals we ingested from the food chain.  Chemicals that had no place in the food chain and were added purely for the sake of profit.<br />
<br />
This is not just a problem for you the reader; it is a problem for your children and children's children.  Rome collapsed due to lead line water viaducts.  It was due to a lack of understanding in the inherit dangers of lead.  We on their other hand have commercial companies cognizant of their actions who continue to poison us.  Death may not occur immediately and it may be we are only left dysfunctional or in poverty due to high medical bills.<br />
<br />
Life is not just about duration or the ability to exist, but the quality of the existence, to live without pain and to be able to enjoy what is before us.  Where we may not be able to choose our lot in life completely, we can choose the level of damage we willingly accept.  Even Arsenic can be taken in small doses, but that does not suggest we should because of the long term damage from repeated consumption.  The same is true for many of the chemicals now in our food chain.<br />
<br />
We are being poisoned and simply choose not to believe it, because "I don't feel anything or It has not made me sick yet!"  That is like playing Russian roulette and saying I have pulled the trigger 5 times with no ill effect, what danger can there be in pulling the trigger one more time.  Worse, you decide to give the gun to your kids to try the game, simply because you have not been harmed yet. Yes, you are gambling with your life and your c]]></description>

The first place to start if you are trying to avoid chemicals is to isolate the chemicals you wish to avoid and which you have control over. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is a natural product derived from seaweed either off the Asian or Iris coasts.  The process itself is relatively straight forward and does not have harmful side effects for most people.  However, that is not what is sold or used in most stores.  Synthetic MSG is a chemically produced product that uses carcinogenic chemicals to create a cheaper and dangerous alternative to the natural product.<br />
<br />
The production of even the natural MSG develops free glutamate which can rapidly be absorbed by the body and rush across the brain barrier at such a rate that it can destroy brain cells.  The Synthetic product creates far more free glutamate which accounts for more pronounced issues.  Glutamate is typically bound in nature and thus must be separated from other particles before it is absorbed into the body at a much slower rate and in lower quantities. Sharpe knives actually have fine points on their edge that grab and stay where they are put.  Learn how to hold your fingers curled under so that the knuckle are a guide for the flat portion of the knife.  Proper technique is important.  Don't try to be the fastest slicer and dicer that is showmanship better left to the TV personalities.<br />

Cleanliness is a must around food preparation areas especially where chicken, eggs or meat are concerned.  These may sound like tips that are too simple, but they are critical to food you may store for periods longer that just the next meal.  Sterilizing jars for canning is critical to avoiding bacteria in canned foods.  We are trying to avoid poisons, it would do us little good to poison ourselves.  Cooking at home is very safe and canning is a great way to store fresh products beyond the season.  So is freezing and drying products.  If you plan on canning jellies, jams, compotes, fruits or vegetables you will need some canning jars lids, and rings.  Never reuse the lids as the seal may not create a positive seal all the way around causing the vacuum to be lost, air to enter and with oxygen we get mold or bacteria.  The loss in product is far greater than the cost of a new lid.<br />
<br />
You can get a canner and canning rack, but any deep pot will work with a dish towel place in the bottom.  The dish towel allows the jars to set in the boiling water without the jar being in direct contact with the much hotter pan bottom.  The concept is to get the jar and ingredients hot enough to force air out and allow the heat to pull the lid tightly to the glass jar when cooling.  The ring is just there to protect the lid from accidently being knocked off if solidly bumped against something.<br />
<br />
Canning saves space in the freezer portion of your refrigerator.  You can use freezer bags and by double bagging extend the flavor and avoid most freezer burn.  Buying a freezer is another option for some people.  And as mention drying foods is yet another option.  All three of these techniques allow you to buy fresh or extend the life of products you make which protects you from products you might purchase in the store.<br />
<br />
Food mills are very handy for making powders of onion, garlic, peppers and other products like herbs.  Drying herbs and growing your own is very beneficial.  Fresh herbs have a different taste from dried and are great, but when not in season dried are a nice alternative.  Dried as mentioned before intensifies the flavor.  You will find dried spices a real bonus when replicating your favorite salad dressing, sauce, or rub.<br />
<br />
We buy mustard seed and make our own mustard as an example.  You place a 1/4 cup of Brown, Yellow or a mixture of them in a small dish and add 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar letting soak over night.  Place the seeds and vinegar in a small food processor or food mill and begin to grind the seed.  The longer you grind the smoother the texture.  If you want a hot mustard add a little cumin, if you want a sweet mustard add some sugar or honey for honey mustard.  Add 1/8 tsp of salt as you grind.  Some cheaper mustards use fillers to lower the cost such corn starch.  If the mustard is to strong adding corn starch is an option to reduce the intensity, we recommend arrowroot to avoid the potential Dixons in herbicides from corn from which corn starch is derived.  Add too much "filler" and it will go flat.  You can add more vinegar or add water to limit the bite.  Each person has their own taste and will come up with several mustards they like.  These make great gifts.  Buy the way we have an old fashioned hand crank grinder and can grind our own corn meal and corn starch from freshly grown corn which does not have pesticides.  The mill was about &#36;18 from Amazon.com.  The quantities consumed are not that large a quantity to grind and if you grind it fresh as needed it has more flavor.<br />
<br />
Think about what manufactures use, read the labels for ingredients that create flavor.  Ingredients are listed in quantity.  Sure you don't know what artificial or natural ingredients they use, but that is not important.  The content list tell you the major ingredients and rough percentages.  Go to the internet and look for copy cat or old fashioned recipes.  Old fashioned recipes are where most products originated and the commercial product is only a shadow of the flavors found in the original.<br />
<br />
Try new spices and seeds.  Celery seed is a great flavor in many products that is over looked. Celery seed and mustard seed are two ingredients found in pickle recipes.  Both seeds can add great flavor and brightness to potato salad or coleslaw among other foods.  <br />
<br />
If you are avoiding synthetic MSG watch out for the cooking oils and soy products.  We use no soy products and only use safflower oil and olive oil.  Do not use hydrogenated fats like Crisco, lard is far better for you.  Yes you heard right Lard is better for you.  To get good lard you need to get it from a butchers shop, if they have fresh pork they can order lard from the same meat locker.<br />
<br />
We make our own bread, jellies, jams, puddings, sauces, salad dressings, catsups, barbecue sauces, pickles, sausages, smoked ham, bacon, chicken, pies, cakes and on and on.  We have found it is far less expensive to cook from scratch and that it really does not take any more or much more time than going to the store.  We have far more spices than the average home and we house more base ingredients like flour, baking powder and baking soda.  That is because they are base ingredients for so many products and because buying in volume drops the price and lowers the average shipping cost.  We buy quality products that are safe and through continuous research find the best buys.  Choices in where you buy and what you buy are a big part of the process.<br />
<br />
Knowing how much to make (how long it will last or how quick it will be consumed) is very helpful in determining how much to make.  Making too much will spoil over time and making to little means you are back cooking the same product too often with dirty dishes and pulling out all of the ingredients.  If you are making one jelly, jam or preserve, why not have three going at the same time.  It takes three pans instead of one, but you only have to clean the canner, knives, spoons and cutting board once.  While one is cooking all three are cooking and you end up with greater variety.  <br />
<br />
To bake a loaf of bread takes time, but not much of your time.  If you are going to be home anyway you might just set aside 15 minutes to mix the flour and knead the dough.  It needs to rise for a couple of hours and may require a second rising after being punched down before being placed in the oven.  However most of the time making bread is in the waiting for it to rise or bake.  Irish soda bread has no kneading or rise time and is an excellent bread.  Learn the types of bread and how to make them.  Use variety in what you do and plan your baking around your activities not your activities around your baking.  If you are going to be doing laundry or watching a movie, activates that are about the same time it takes bread to rise, consider mixing the flour and kneading the bread first allowing it to rise while doing other things.<br />

Sterilizing jars for canning is critical to avoiding bacteria in canned foods.  We are trying to avoid poisons, it would do us little good to poison ourselves.  Cooking at home is very safe and canning is a great way to store fresh products beyond the season.  So is freezing and drying products.  If you plan on canning jellies, jams, compotes, fruits or vegetables you will need some canning jars lids, and rings.  Never reuse the lids as the seal may not create a positive seal all the way around causing the vacuum to be lost, air to enter and with oxygen we get mold or bacteria.  The loss in product is far greater than the cost of a new lid.<br />

You can get a canner and canning rack, but any deep pot will work with a dish towel place in the bottom.  The dish towel allows the jars to set in the boiling water without the jar being in direct contact with the much hotter pan bottom.  The concept is to get the jar and ingredients hot enough to force air out and allow the heat to pull the lid tightly to the glass jar when cooling.  The ring is just there to protect the lid from accidently being knocked off if solidly bumped against something.<br />

Canning saves space in the freezer portion of your refrigerator.  You can use freezer bags and by double bagging extend the flavor and avoid most freezer burn.  Buying a freezer is another option for some people.  And as mention drying foods is yet another option.  All three of these techniques allow you to buy fresh or extend the life of products you make which protects you from products you might purchase in the store.<br />

Food mills are very handy for making powders of onion, garlic, peppers and other products like herbs.  Drying herbs and growing your own is very beneficial.  Fresh herbs have a different taste from dried and are great, but when not in season dried are a nice alternative.  Dried as mentioned before intensifies the flavor.  You will find dried spices a real bonus when replicating your favorite salad dressing, sauce, or rub.<br />

We buy mustard seed and make our own mustard as an example.  You place a 1/4 cup of Brown, Yellow or a mixture of them in a small dish and add 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar letting soak over night.  Place the seeds and vinegar in a small food processor or food mill and begin to grind the seed.  The longer you grind the smoother the texture.  If you want a hot mustard add a little cumin, if you want a sweet mustard add some sugar or honey for honey mustard.  Add 1/8 tsp of salt as you grind.  Some cheaper mustards use fillers to lower the cost such corn starch.  If the mustard is to strong adding corn starch is an option to reduce the intensity, we recommend arrowroot to avoid the potential Dixons in herbicides from corn from which corn starch is derived.  Add too much "filler" and it will go flat.  You can add more vinegar or add water to limit the bite.  Each person has their own taste and will come up with several mustards they like.  These make great gifts.  Buy the way we have an old fashioned hand crank grinder and can grind our own corn meal and corn starch from freshly grown corn which does not have pesticides.  The mill was about &#36;18 from Amazon.com.  The quantities consumed are not that large a quantity to grind and if you grind it fresh as needed it has more flavor.<br />

Think about what manufactures use, read the labels for ingredients that create flavor.  Ingredients are listed in quantity.  Sure you don't know what artificial or natural ingredients they use, but that is not important.  The content list tell you the major ingredients and rough percentages.  Go to the internet and look for copy cat or old fashioned recipes.  Old fashioned recipes are where most products originated and the commercial product is only a shadow of the flavors found in the original.<br />

Try new spices and seeds.  Celery seed is a great flavor in many products that is over looked. Celery seed and mustard seed are two ingredients found in pickle recipes.  Both seeds can add great flavor and brightness to potato salad or coleslaw among other foods.  <br />

If you are avoiding synthetic MSG watch out for the cooking oils and soy products.  We use no soy products and only use safflower oil and olive oil.  Do not use hydrogenated fats like Crisco, lard is far better for you.  Yes you heard right Lard is better for you.  To get good lard you need to get it from a butchers shop, if they have fresh pork they can order lard from the same meat locker.<br />

We make our own bread, jellies, jams, puddings, sauces, salad dressings, catsups, barbecue sauces, pickles, sausages, smoked ham, bacon, chicken, pies, cakes and on and on.  We have found it is far less expensive to cook from scratch and that it really does not take any more or much more time than going to the store.  We have far more spices than the average home and we house more base ingredients like flour, baking powder and baking soda.  That is because they are base ingredients for so many products and because buying in volume drops the price and lowers the average shipping cost.  We buy quality products that are safe and through continuous research find the best buys.  Choices in where you buy and what you buy are a big part of the process.<br />

Knowing how much to make (how long it will last or how quick it will be consumed) is very helpful in determining how much to make.  Making too much will spoil over time and making to little means you are back cooking the same product too often with dirty dishes and pulling out all of the ingredients.  If you are making one jelly, jam or preserve, why not have three going at the same time.  It takes three pans instead of one, but you only have to clean the canner, knives, spoons and cutting board once.  While one is cooking all three are cooking and you end up with greater variety.  <br />
<br />
To bake a loaf of bread takes time, but not much of your time.  If you are going to be home anyway you might just set aside 15 minutes to mix the flour and knead the dough.  It needs to rise for a couple of hours and may require a second rising after being punched down before being placed in the oven.  However most of the time making bread is in the waiting for it to rise or bake.  Irish soda bread has no kneading or rise time and is an excellent bread.  Learn the types of bread and how to make them.  Use variety in what you do and plan your baking around your activities not your activities around your baking.  If you are going to be doing laundry or watching a movie, activates that are about the same time it takes bread to rise, consider mixing the flour and kneading the bread first allowing it to rise while doing other things.<br />

On closer investigation I found it had no HFCS and no harmful chemicals.  It has plenty of sugar and the sample tasted sweet, but it did have the old fountain flavor.  It was &#36;18.99 for a case of 24 bottles.  That is about 80 cents per 12 oz. bottle of soda.<br />

It sounds expensive, but remember it is not in a can with BPA, it does not use HFCS a cheaper sweetner and it has no harmful chemicals like synthetic MSG.  It will cost more than the run of the mill product.<br />
<br />
More important is the fact the manufacture of this product would not have produced it if they did not feel pressure to do so.  Whether it was negative opinions or seeing a potential untapped market does not matter they have taken the first step in acknowledging there are people (enough people) looking for chemical freed products to respond to those concerns with an alternative.  If you are a cola fan and just can't do without it, this may be the alternaitve you have been the answer.<br />
<br />
The big news, this is evidence people like us are growning in population and voice enough for major manufactures to shift their behavior.  This is not the first compamy to change and it will not be the last.  Over time with growing attention we may even get the FDA to wake up and respond with bans on some of these chemicals and toxins.]]></description>

It sounds expensive, but remember it is not in a can with BPA, it does not use HFCS a cheaper sweetner and it has no harmful chemicals like synthetic MSG.  It will cost more than the run of the mill product.<br />

More important is the fact the manufacture of this product would not have produced it if they did not feel pressure to do so.  Whether it was negative opinions or seeing a potential untapped market does not matter they have taken the first step in acknowledging there are people (enough people) looking for chemical freed products to respond to those concerns with an alternative.  If you are a cola fan and just can't do without it, this may be the alternaitve you have been the answer.<br />

The big news, this is evidence people like us are growning in population and voice enough for major manufactures to shift their behavior.  This is not the first compamy to change and it will not be the last. 			<title><![CDATA[What foods can I eat?]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[One of the big questions we get is what foods have harmful chemicals and which foods don’t?  Because there are so many foods and manufacturers, we have not even come close to testing every product from every region of the United States.  And for other countries we just don't have the opportunity to test their foods.  In the United States, we are most often confined to testing foods of the Midwest except for products nationally distributed.<br />
<br />
Here are the rules we use and for each rule, I am sure there are exceptions.<br />
<br />
1. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Dairy:</span> Any dairy food beyond basic milk more than likely has synthetic carrageenan which often incorporate synthetic MSG.  These products must state Carrageenan on the container.  Many cheeses that do not have Carrageenan do have synthetic MSG and will label it as artificial or natural flavor or one of the alternate names.  Cream Cheese, sour cream and butter are the few items that are most often natural.  You can find cream and half-and-half that is safe, but it is rare.  Buttermilk and powdered milk often, but not always contain Carrageenan.<br />
<br />
Cheeses that are processed at temperatures higher than 160F degrees can have natuarlly occuring free glutemate, which will cause headaches for those sensitive to free glutemate.  This is likely in hard cheeses and any cheese that uses ultra-pasturized milk which it taken to 190F degrees for a short period.<br />
<br />
2. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Meats:</span> Luncheon meats, sausage, bacon and other preserved meats will most often contain Sodium Nitrate and Sodium Nitrite or Sodium Benzoate.  They may also have Synthetic MSG.  Whole chicken, chicken breasts and turkeys are now being injected with flavors and gravies which include synthetic carrageenan and synthetic MSG.<br />
<br />
3. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Prepared Meals:</span> TV dinners, diet dinners, finished goods like pies, cakes, cooked meats and cereals for breakfast or toaster type snacks often include harmful food colorings, Synthetic Carrageenan, Synthetic MSG and High Fructose Corn Syrup.<br />
<br />
4. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Snack foods:</span> Snack foods, junk food, candy, chips, dips and the like are often targets for incorporating harmful food colorings, Synthetic Carrageenan, Synthetic MSG and High Fructose Corn Syrup. Even Planter's Peanuts contain Synthetic MSG.  Yes, peanut butter can and does often contain Synthetic MSG.  Sodas with the exception of a few small companies include Sodium Benzoate, artificial food coloring, and Synthetic MSG along with way too much salt.<br />
<br />
5. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Condiments:</span> Most condiments, salad dressings, ketchup, barbecue sauce, pickles and others contain many of the afore mentioned chemicals  Read the label and you will often find Aspartame, High Fructose Corn Syrup artificial food coloring and carrageenan.  Hidden from view will be Synthetic MSG.  Remember it goes by numerous names and can fall under artificial or natural flavorings.<br />
<br />
6. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Desert Mixes</span> puddings, pie fillings, icings, cake mixes and jellos often contain artificial food coloring, Synthetic Carrageenan, Synthetic MSG, High fructose Corn Syrup and many contain Aspartame.<br />
<br />
7.<span style="font-weight: bold;">Labels:</span> The longer the list of ingredients the more you can be assured there is something in it you don't want.  Organic only means 70% is organic, the rest can contain harmful chemicals.  Healthy, diet, natural and many other marketing phrases do not assure safe food.   Organic does not mean there is not Carrageenan, MSG or High Fructose Corn Syrup.<br />

8. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Spices:</span> Sorry spices in the store often contain Synthetic MSG.  Even those that boast no MSG may have traces of MSG from other products they make that include MSG.<br />

Your right that does not leave much in the store you can eat.  You could go to the fresh packaged meats or the produce isle with fresh fruit and vegetables.  They so far do not incorporate any of the above chemicals.  They most likely include harmful pesticides.<br />
<br />
Worse still you are not getting one dose of these chemicals you are getting daily doses at least three times a day with almost every food you eat.  And the food chain has recalls for salmonella and E-Coli on what seems a growing frequency. <br />
<br />
You can rid yourself of these chemicals, but it takes time and determination on your part.  You need to buy what we term sundries or staples, what pioneers would buy on there once a month excursion to town.  Flour, sugar, salt, yeast, baking soda, raw spices, and base (safe) chemicals, fresh meat (from safe sources), eggs (from known sources).  We grow most of our vegetables and some of our fruit.  Family provides the eggs and we make everything we eat from scratch using basic sundries and staples.  We often make our spices and grow our herbs or have safe sources for purchasing them.  We cure and smoke meats and dry or can foods for off seasons.  Living in zone 5-6 we grow all four seasons using hoop houses and small green houses to extend the seasons.<br />
<br />
Each year we have learned more about how to prepare foods from scratch and it has taken years to accomplish our current status.  We have documented our recipes and have hundreds to choose from.  The recipes include tricks to making basic condiments, candies and deserts the old-fashioned way.  We don't do without, just the opposite.  We eat everything we did before, we just make it at home.  As ominous as this sounds it is not as difficult as you think.  First you win back a lot of time spent harvesting food at the store and you eliminate the headaches or other symptoms that stop you from functioning normally.<br />
<br />
We would rather be cooking jellies and jams or be out in the garden harvesting food than suffering through a painful 3-day headache.  It is much more enjoyable baking breads, cakes and pies at home than standing in line at the grocery store.  We dry and can foods while you load all those groceries in the car after lugging them across the parking lot once you had bagged them only to reverse the processes when you get home.  Maybe we spend a little more time cooking from scratch and cleaning up, but not as much as you think and our time is spent away from the hustle of the traffic and shopping crowds.<br />
<br />
Ready to ask some questions go ahead.  We will do our best to answer your questions and help you begin the process of wining back your health for you, your family and friends.   As your knowledge grows, you will cut out more processed foods and as your skills improve you will see yourself accomplishing more at home with ease.  Pull family and friends into the process and you will reap the bounty of simple bartering; trading time/goods or working together to create a finished product.  It does not have to be all work.  <br />

Outside you can smoke bacon, ham and chicken while snapping beans for canning as you visit.  The aroma is wonderful.  Inside someone can be baking breads and rolls while someone else is making jams and jellies or making sweet or dill pickles.  Later the same day someone could be making sausage, salami or pepperroni while someone makes ice cream.  It is amazing what two or three people can accomplish.  The aromas are all over the place and your appetite will be right there.  Of course you need to sample the finished goods.<br />
<br />
All this old fashioned cooking has a romantic/nostalgic feel and you are right it does.  Someone will have bragging rights on the best pie, breads, pickles or meats, it may become their signature and they may have competition.  Its fun to play with spices and flavors, it can be intriguing to try to make something new and even clean up can be fun if you are not doing it alone.   You may discuss the challenges of the day, the successes and plans for the next cooking event.  Cooking from scratch is an art, one we can all learn and share with others.  You and your family do not have to eat harmful chemicals that can and will endanger health now and in the future.  Besides cooked from scratch is far better then anything offered from the store.<br />

We have seen movies depecting Russian roulette where a six shot pistol is loaded with only one bullet passed between to individuals.  We recognize instantly that there is an imminante danger in pulling the trigger.  We know the damage that can be done and cringe as the trigger is pulled each time knowing the chance of being killed becomes greater.<br />

So too are the chemicals we are ingesting.  Aspertame is cancer causing, synthetic monosodium glutamate (MSG) kills brain sells, carrageenan incorporates MSG, Sodium Benzoate is linked to cancer, so is high fructose corn syrup.  Some food colorings redically shit childrens ability to cope, adults as well.  Your answer that it has not affecte you yet, is the same as the last guy to pull the trigger on the revolver, it did not hurt him.  The more he ignores the risk we all know what will happen, his turn will come.  The more you ignore the risk the same will be true for you.  Either it will kill you or leave you with severe disabilities and high health bills.  If not you, your children or friends.  What are you willing to risk?  How much are your family, friends and even your health worth to you?  Are you willing to at least spend some time reading, listening and researching the problem?  That is after all the first step.<br />

Food from the store often looks like the vegetable or fruit we want, but also often fails to taste anything like the real deal.  How often have you picked up a tomato in the store that is Red, ripe and plump.  It looks smooth and delicious.  That is the last time you hear the word delicious associated with a commercially grown product.  You get the tomato home and there is no taste beyond the pile of salt you put on it.<br />
<br />
Home grown fruit is as good as it looks, they are an almost forgotten flavor, especially heirloom plants.  Hybrid plants can go to far in making the plant pest free and perfectly smooth.  Looks are a priority over flavor.  Wrong, taste is what eating is about most.<br />
